Newspaper and magazines struggle to survive

Bob Weinstein writes:

Naively thinking that investing in expensive websites in order to turn out snappy-looking web editions didn’t solve newspapers’ problems. Web editions only addressed part of the problem.

More significant changes had to be made, yet newspapers’ business strategists and number crunchers weren’t sure what they were. If they had some inkling what the necessary changes were, they were afraid to address them.
