Journalism still interests students despite industry downturn

But despite all of the doom and gloom, enrollment in undergraduate journalism programs nationwide grew 35 percent in the past 10 years, to 201,477, and was up slightly in 2008, the most recent year for which data are available, according to the Chronicle article. Graduate programs also reported an increase.

So, why the increased interest in a field where the median pay last year was $29,000 for recent college graduates at daily newspapers?
