Transcontinental restructuring newspaper division, closing production departments

A reader writes:

I've been a follower of your blog for some time now. Thought you might want to know about a major restructuring and layoffs at Transcontinental, which took place over yesterday and Monday.

The main impact is due to a restructuring that will take the newspaper division in Quebec and Ontario from nine regions down to five by the end of October. Management, administration and production are the most critically affected, though there are cuts in sales positions also. Job cuts are especially deep in production departments, four of which are being closed and their activities moved to other production facilities.
