Saving the Fourth Estate

The conclusion drawn that giving public assistance to help aid the struggling print industry will ultimately lead to government control is not grounded in facts.

The truth is that we already have media subsidized by the government. Has anyone heard of NPR or PBS? Both these media entities are funded by donors, philanthropic organizations, and congressional funds. Non-commercial Television has existed since 1967 and in 2005 the Corporation for Public Broadcasting total budget was $390 million which is a fraction of what cable TV generates for operational cost.
