The newspaper is in our spirit

Jeff Mullin writes:

Last fall’s economic collapse hit newspapers especially hard, since they already were struggling against the twin threats of the Internet and youthful apathy.

Of course, newspapers have stuck it to themselves in terms of the Internet, with most posting everything they run in their print edition on their Web sites. Except, for the most part, the online content is free to anyone with Internet access. But attempts to charge for access to online newspapers has not proven successful either, so that quandary continues.
