Journal Sentinel plans more buyouts

A little more than two months after newsroom employees at the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel agreed to wage cuts designed to delay layoffs until October, dozens of veteran journalists are weighing a new voluntary buyout proposal from the newspaper.

The buyouts could start as early as August, and if too few journalists seek buyouts, the newspaper will issue layoff notices that would take effect by October. This will be the fourth round of buyouts since fall 2007 at the daily newspaper owned by Journal Communications Inc., Milwaukee.
