State newspaper cutting 6 jobs, using furloughs

The State Media Co. says it will cut six positions and force most employees to take a week of unpaid leave by Nov. 30.

The company, which oversees The State newspaper and thestate.com, made the announcement Monday. The company has offered buyouts and laid off workers twice in the last year. It cited severe declines in advertising sales as a reason for the moves.
