Stillwater Courier to cease publication

The managing editor of the Stillwater Courier and Lake Elmo Leader newspapers announced Tuesday that both papers would cease publication after May 7.

Yvonne Klimmert wrote a column in the May 5 Courier announcing the decision made by Fargo, N.D.-based parent company Forum Communications. A Courier story said Klimmert and the paper's other six staffers were given the news Tuesday.

News of the Courier shutdown came less than a week after American Community Newspapers, publisher of Courier competitor the Stillwater Gazette and dozens of other community newspapers, announced that it has voluntarily filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection. ACN said it will continue to operate its businesses and publish its papers. The Gazette is a weekly paper and the Courier has been a weekly.
