Irish readers prefer newspapers to web

IRELAND'S "deep rooted, traditional newspaper following" spared the print industry here from the worst effects of global reader migration to the web, the consultants behind a major world newspaper report said yesterday.

'Outlook for newspaper publishing in a digital age' from PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC) concluded that the global newspaper industry was in a "state of turmoil" as advertising revenues fall, broadband penetration rises, and more devices than ever offer an alternate slice of the news.
