Hartford Courant editor, managing editor resign

The editor of the Hartford Courant has resigned, less than a week after the newspaper’s parent company installed a Florida Web site manager over him as “director of content.”

In a memo to employees Monday evening, Clifford Teutsch said that “important work demands to be done here by an editor who is in synch with the people above him.”

“My best assessment is that I’m not that editor,” Teutsch said.

Managing Editor Barbara Roessner, the number two person in the newsroom, also resigned.

Jeff Levine was named senior vice president and director of content of the Hartford Courant and Channel 61 television last week. He was appointed by Richard Graziano, who was recently promoted to general manager of Channel 61 and publisher of the Hartford Courant in a move by the parent company to merge operations of the newspaper, TV station and Web sites.
