Union Protests as Times Union Contract Canceled

"We have offered concessions, we have offered wage cuts," said newspaper guild president Tim O'Brien.

Newspaper staffers found themselves in the unusual position of being the news. At least fifty newspaper guild members and other union members, protested out in front of Times Union headquarters in Colonie, with security guards in plain view.

O'Brien said, "My greatest fear is for the survival of the Times Union."

That fear, came just hours after the Hearst Corporation canceled the union's contract. Union workers are worried the company will layoff people with seniority and there's also grave concern the company will outsource certain jobs.
