Saving daily newspapers

Being run like a charity may keep the newsprint flowing, but how many reporters, photographers and managers will stick around when the pay scale drops to the nonprofit level? Those in newspapering may emphasize the importance of informing the public, but how altruistic will they be when their wages are cut? Besides, two nonprofit newspapers - the St. Petersburg Times and the Christian Science Monitor - are in those same troubled waters. Then again, universities seem to pay pretty well, though foundations who contribute heavily are known to expect something in return.
