O&E Newspapers to consolidate, stop publishing in some communities

The Observer & Eccentric Newspapers will stop publication of five Eccentric print and Web editions on May 31 and consolidate several other neighborhood editions into one multi-community Sunday newspaper, company officials said Monday.

About 44 people will lose their jobs as a result of the closures and the cuts will take place in all departments, including advertising, editorial, circulation and production.

Owner Gannett Co., Inc. will shut down the Eccentric editions in Birmingham, West Bloomfield Township, Troy and Rochester.
