Local journalism educators sound off on future of newsprint

At Rider High School, journalism instructor Mary Beth Lee sees little interest among students about what’s happening with print newspapers. She brings no newspaper to class for them because most are getting their news online or on their cell phones.

They want to read books on Kindles or iPhones. “The printed paper product is awkward for them,” she said.

They shun books, too. “They go online to get their news. They want their news. They are more savvy now about the world and current events than they were 10 years ago.
