Journal Sentinel newsroom union OKs 6.6% pay cut

The newsroom employees union at the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel voted Thursday to approve a 6.6 percent wage cut to delay layoffs.

The plan calls for the wage cuts to take effect May 3, a union official said. Members of Newspaper Guild Local 51 voted 86 to 46 in favor of the plan.

The newsroom union joins two other Journal Sentinel employee unions – the Graphics Communications Conference the Machinists — in agreeing to wage concessions, said Journal Sentinel president and publisher Betsy Brenner.
