Tucson Citizen, its workers are in limbo

Even if Gannett does find a buyer for certain assets of the Citizen, it will likely mean a significant shake-up for most in the newsroom, said Larry Aldrich, a former CEO of Tucson Newspapers, which handles non-news operations for the Citizen and the Arizona Daily Star. Gone are the days when operations remained the same at a paper through a change in ownership, Aldrich said.

While newspapers on the whole have been struggling, Aldrich said it's not unheard of for a potential buyer to emerge.
"The difficulty is the economics don't change," said Aldrich, who's now CEO of University Physicians Healthcare. "The question will be: How do they actually plan to run it?"
