Stop the presses! Most papers aren't dying

Mark Silverman writes:

So for the better part of two weeks, many of us have been asked if The Tennessean is going out of business.

The answer is no.

The Tennessean makes money. We are not going away.

Yes, our industry faces two enormous challenges at the same time: the movement from print to digital media and the worst recession since the 1930s.

But that doesn't mean that most newspapers and their Web sites are about to close.
