A newspaper by any other name is ...

The newspaper business is today's example of just such a process.

There seems to be a pending mass extinction of once vital and prosperous newspapers across the country. The fact that they have been in business for over a hundred years -- The Town Talk just passed 126 years -- is no guarantee of future viability, at least as the product we have come to know and depend on.

A decade or so ago, a few of us Town Talk editors would engage in hypothetical discussions about whether, how and when the print edition would go the way of the dodo bird. A few argued that newsprint would never go out of style, touting its mobility as a prime reason.
