David Black is not buying San Diego daily paper

A Black Press publication reports:

David Black, the Victoria-based owner of the Business Examiner and about 150 other newspapers in Canada and the U.S., has not added the San Diego Union Tribune to his empire, despite a report to that effect in a Victoria daily newspaper on Friday.

While Black would not comment on the report, Mark Barnhill, a spokesman for Platinum Equity the private American equity firm in negotiations to buy the Union Tribune, denied the story.
