More layoffs at The Commercial Appeal

The Commmercial Appeal has laid off 18 more employees, effective March 12, according to industry sources. Sources also report another round of layoffs could come in June.

In November, the newspaper reduced its work force by 57 people through a combination of retirements, layoffs and resignations. In July, 55 people were laid off.

The daily newspaper employed 700 people in August 2008, according to Memphis Business Journal research. It employed 840 in 2005.
