8 Hudson Valley weekly papers will fold

Financially troubled Journal Register Co. is closing the eight weekly newspapers in its Taconic Press group in New York's Hudson Valley.

Tom Cincotta, publisher of the Millbrook-based weeklies, says the closings are a result of the bad economy that has hurt the newspaper industry nationwide. The papers will put out their last editions Thursday.

The papers are the Millbrook Round Table, Voice Ledger of Pleasant Valley, Gazette-Advertiser of Rhinebeck, Pawling News Chronicle, Harlem Valley Times of Amenia, Hyde Park Townsman, Register Herald of Pine Plains, and Putnam County Courier.

Journal Register, based in Yardley, Pa., has recently closed several weeklies in Pennsylvania and Connecticut and sold two Connecticut dailies.
