Record-Eagle announces job cuts

The Traverse City Record-Eagle, facing the challenges all media companies are experiencing, reduced its staff this week.

Publisher Michael Casuscelli said the cuts were necessitated by rising expenses including soaring newsprint costs and a decline in advertising revenue because of the slumping economy, challenges that are forcing staff reductions at newspapers and other media outlets throughout the country.

The full- and part-time positions that were eliminated in several departments were the equivalent of just over eight full-time positions, he said.
