Journal Register folds 2 weeklies

The Doylestown Patriot and New Hope Gazette ceased publication Friday, two days after their publisher, the Journal Register Co., closed another Upper Bucks weekly newspaper.

"Today marks the final issue of the Doylestown Patriot," read a front-page notice in that paper. "We appreciate the loyalty of our readers and advertisers through the years."

A similar notice appeared Friday on the front page of the New Hope Gazette, and on Wednesday in the Quakertown Free Press.

Quakertown won't be without a weekly newspaper for long. United Publishing, a company that publishes three small weekly newspapers in New Jersey, has announced it will launch a new newspaper called the Quakertown Gazette to fill the void left by the Free Press.
