'Gleaner' to cut staff

The Gleaner Company Limited, one of the leading media companies in Jamaica, says it will be cutting down its staff levels by the end of his month.

The company, in a statement, said it has been forced to make this move because of the current economic environment.

"In a move to stream line its operations, the Gleaner will unfortunately have to reduce staff levels by approximately 70 positions by January 30, 2009, through voluntary redundancy, early retirement and involuntary cuts," the statement read.
