Sun-Times Group to redesign Elgin Courier-News, drop Saturday edition

Sun-Times Media Group Inc. disclosed a planned redesign of its Elgin Courier News publication, trimming the daily to a Sunday-through Friday print schedule and converting it from the conventional broadsheet format to a tabloid.

Sun-Times Media, which owns the Chicago Sun-Times and a number of other Chicago-area papers, said the revamped Elgin paper will contain more local content and more graphics.

The Courier News will launch a new Weekend Edition beginning Friday, Jan. 30, combining the news and features in the Friday and Saturday papers.

For most U.S. dailies, the Saturday edition is considered to be the least attractive to advertisers and generates less revenue than other days.
