Online news was a thrill - now its feeling the big chill

At the time, some "real" journalists didn't take our efforts seriously - after all, they had deadlines to meet and the serious business of putting out a newspaper. So we begged for extra scraps of content at editorial meetings and tried to produce a product at least as good as theirs.

When we joked among ourselves, we'd talk about the day when the other departments would see us as equals. As naive as it sounds, we had a vision that in a few years everyone would be happier because they'd learned that distributing news online was easier, faster and more efficient. And now we know we were right.

Except ...

...Replace "few" with "dozen," and replace "happier" with "unsure how to make a profit."
