C-J lays off 51 as part of broader Gannett cutback

The Courier-Journal has laid off 51 employees, including 17 who volunteered for the severance package, as part of a broader cutback across Gannett Co. Inc.’s local newspaper division.

The layoffs amount to 6.5 percent of the C-J staff.

Among the layoffs are pressroom jobs that are tied to a move to operate one press instead of two most weekdays.
